| Natural Resource Management Challenges
Clifton district’s most serious natural resource management challenges are controlling and preventing soil erosion, which affects a myriad of issues primarily, decreased soil health and biological activity, quality of water discharged into creeks which feed the Murray-Darling System, and weed control. Almost all Clifton Landcare projects address these issues, be they property planning, mapping, accredited environmental management systems or onground works, plantings and pests and weeds. We are proud that our 18 month project “NRM Capacity Building Workshops for Clifton Landholders” won the 2008 Toowoomba Regional Environmental Excellence Award in the community organization category.
Catalysts for on-ground work initiatives, projects, programs: Clifton Landcare’s longterm on-going biodiversity corridor project on the road connecting Clifton to Nobby began in 1999. Our NRM database initiative based on Council’s ratepayer list identifies issues important to our landholders.
Queensland Water and Landcarers (QWALC) provides insurance for Clifton Landcare’s registered community NRM group. The excess for any claim is $1000 Public and product liability $10 million, excess $1000 Personal Accident Capital benefit up to $100 000, and Weekly benefit limited to 85% of weekly wage, with a maximum of $500 per week, less 1 week. Association liability $1 million any one claim, $2 million in aggregate, excess $1000. |
