IT’LL BE ALRIGHT IN THE LONG RUN CLIFTON LANDCARE’S FREE SPECIAL COMMUNITY EVENT PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELLBEING Having experienced the devastation of many years of drought and over the past year the impact of two floods has had on both the land and the people who work it, Clifton Landcare Group members decided in this ‘Year of the Farmer’ to address the health and wellbeing of local people who live and work in our rural area; after all, a healthy productive rural community needs healthy people. Our aim is to bring the community together for a social, uplifting yet informative occasion aimed at encouraging community members to take a proactive and preventative approach to both their mental and physical health. The free event will take place from noon to 4pm on Sunday, 19 February 2012, following on from the Clifton Show, 17-19 February. Many volunteers and sponsors are contributing funds and effort to make the event happen, particularly our coordinating partner, the Australasian Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health (ACRRMH). Throughout the afternoon stalls of sponsoring agencies will be open to attendees providing free information which can be taken home. John Schumann and Hugh McDonald (ex Redgum) and the Vagabond crew will entertain, singing songs such as ‘I was Only 19’ and ‘Diamantina Drover’. John is not shy to interrupt the performance and talk about his own personal experience with mental illness and encourage people to think about looking after their health with a positive, proactive and preventative approach. The opportunity to enjoy a live performance will attract people and help break down any barriers caused by stigma and other misconceptions, at the same time, people can access heaps of health and wellbeing information available to take home. The event starts at noon, 19 February 2012, at the Clifton Showgrounds. Clifton Landcare is providing a free BBQ, operated by Clifton Lions, and Clifton Show Society is manning a drinks stand. To get an idea of the number of people to expect for the free BBQ, Clifton Landcare, jointly with sponsor O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, is offering a fantastic $750 prize package – 2 all-inclusive nights at O’Reilly’s – as an incentive to register before the event. How to Enter? See how in the flyer above and watch out for posters, flyers and advertising appearing after Australia Day.
