Lippia Eradication in the Lower King's Creek Catchment This project targeted water quality and fish habitat of the Lower King's Creek catchment by eradicating the invasive weed Lippia along a substantial length of the creek and stabilised some eroded creek banks. Native indigenous species were established to kick start the regeneration of ground cover and enable the return of birdlife and diversity of fish species that once inhabited Kings Creek. |

| 45471 Round 4 Envirofund Bushcare |
Continuing the Clifton-Nobby Biodiversity Corridor Queensland This project continued a 10km wildlife corridor by planting 1600 native trees and shrubs (making a total of 6600) on reserve land providing habitat and shelter for local species and migratory birds (including the endangered migrant, the Regent Honeyeater) in an attempt to reverse the decline in biodiversity brought about by clearing rangeland. The project aims to link Clifton and Nobby townships with 10km of community-supported revegetation. The 100ha area crosses Kings Creek Lippia Eradication Project where stream bank rehabilitation has occurred. |

| 44782 Round 4 Envirofund Bushcare |
Rehabilitating Waterholes and Wetland on Missens Flat This project successfully rehabilitated 5ha of a natural wetland and waterhole area suffering from the effects of drought and siltation. Although drought affected plantings of trees and shrubs, grasses and tufty species were successful and further plantings will take place this in 2008-09. Vegetation sediment weed and seed traps have proven effective in filtering weed laden water entering the wetland and spreading it across a wide area before it passes through the wetland area and discharges into Kings Creek and the Murray-Darling system. |

| 54506 Drought Round 7 Envirofund Bushcare |
Erosion Control and Drought Recovery Measures on ‘Saddletop’ This project addressed soil conservation works across two properties. It widened and desilted 3km of Spring Creek, a tributary of the Condamine River and slowed water to better manage overland flows. 7.2km of fencing was constructed to protect direct seeding of native grassland species. A deep ripping technique on contour lines was trialled in upland pastures to improve infiltration and encourage stronger plant growth. 540m of deep rooted native trees and shrubs will be planted in 2008 along waterways to increase biodiversity. |

| 54457 Drought Round 7 Envirofund Landcare |
Vegetation, Grazing and Erosion Management on Upper Spring Creek Headwaters This project constructed 5km of stock exclusion fencing to protect revegetation activities and 25ha of remnant vegetation. It undertook stream bank repairs including installation of a silt catching device on Spring Creek and desilted dry dams and removed invasive woody weeds, which prosper in a drought, across 240ha. |

| 54455 Drought Round 7 Envirofund Rivercare |
Erosion Control and Grazing Management in Spring Creek This project undertook earthworks for erosion control, constructed 7.8km of stock exclusion fencing, installed off stream stock watering points and revegetated with native grasses and riparian species to rehabilitate the banks of Upper Spring Creek. |
$42,240 | $20,070 | $62,310 |
| 54668 Drought Round 7 Envirofund Rivercare |
Remedial Soil Erosion Measures and Protection of Wetland in Spring Creek This project repaired 650m of stream bank and watercourse over three sites. 15ha of degraded area was fenced from stock and reseeded with local species and 2ha of wetland area was planted with native trees and shrubs. Some replanting will be necessary in 2008-09 due to drought losses. Stock watering points were be installed outside protected areas and a silt-catcher, water spreading device was be installed to absorb energy from fast overland flows and catch silt before spreading cleaner water to discharge slowly through filtering groundcover. |
$27,470 | $21,108 | $48,578 |
| 58509 Round 8 Envirofund Bushcare |
Natural Resource Management Capacity Building Workshops for Clifton Landholders This project improved natural resource management outcomes in the Clifton area by providing specific targeted training and skills development as identified in the shire wide natural resource asset and knowledge base inventory conducted in early 2006. Professional trainers, familiar with the area, delivered Soil, Climate Adaptation, GIS mapping, Property Planning and ISO 14001 EMS workshops. The project won the Toowoomba Regional Council’s 2008 Environmental Excellence Award in the community organisation category – Judges’ comments: “Clifton Landcare Group has shown great foresight in helping local landholders equip themselves for farm planning and adapting to future issues. The efforts and initiative of Clifton Landcare in providing extension information for the community is to be congratulated”. |

| 58212 Round 8 Envirofund Rivercare |
The Improvement and Rehabilitation of Lower Kings Creek Stream and Riparian Zone This project will constructed a total of 7km of fencing at four separate sites to exclude stock and protect riparian areas. Weed control and 400 native trees and shrubs were planted to improve creek stability and fauna habitat. |
$35,384 | $49,440 | $84,824 |
| 62678 Round 9 Envirofund Bushcare |
Restoring Woodland Biodiversity in the Headwaters of Upper Spring Creek This project restored and protected critically endangered woodland by eradicating tough invasive weeds, including tree pear, lantana, blackthorn, and honey locust. Landholders and a contractor worked together to treat 260ha of upland woody weeds with a suitable chemical, and where soil is disturbed native grass seed was spread to accelerate ground cover. |

| 62270 Round 9 Envirofund Rivercare |
Improving the Upper Spring Creek Watercourse for Long-Term Stability This current project is conducting works to protect the Upper Spring Creek water course from further erosion during water flow events. Three previously cultivated paddocks are planted to native grass and legumes, totalling 8ha, and 90 native trees and shrubs will be planted in a 450m X 40m habitat corridor. Works include the removal of silt and debris deposited along the fence line during floods, and filling in and levelling out scours, rill and washouts. Native grasses and plants are planted to stabilise 500m of the creek bank and 560m of fence line is re-established. The site will be inspected after each major flow event and a written report kept so that management practices can be constantly reviewed. |

Landholder NRM Inventory Clifton Landcare’s ongoing database based on Council’s ratepayer list identifies NRM issues including those which are Regional Plan targets. In 2006, 14 riparian sites were identified for a River Rescue Project, 25 floodplain issues were identified for a Floodplain Project, and 45 pest and weed issues were identified for a Blueprint for the Bush proposal. The inventory is an initiative of Clifton Landcare, which costs approximately $6,000 pa and, has been hugely useful as a catalyst for landholders to take stock of their environmental situation and as a tool to identify landholders with specific NRM goals. |
